She is a strong believer in partnering with and equipping parents as they strive to help their children persevere through their individual learning styles.
Structured Literacy Therapist
Nikki Miller is both an educational therapist and structured literacy specialist who has been working with students in both the public and private school setting for over 20 years. She and her husband live in the Santa Clarita Valley where they have raised their family.
Learning360 uses a program called Alphabetic Phonics. Alphabetic Phonics is a multisensory curriculum, based on the Orton-Gillingham approach, that teaches the structure of the English language. This phonetic program teaches reading, handwriting, spelling, verbal and written expression and comprehension by simultaneously engaging the visual, auditory and kinesthetic modalities.
Alphabetic Phonics is an intervention program that is prescriptive and focuses on the individual needs of each student. This is very different from traditional tutoring, which is typically scripted or designed to help students prepare for an upcoming test versus long term results.
Each one-hour session is structured to alternate modalities by including 10 different activities: alphabet, review of letters, review of sounds, multisensory introduction of a new letter, reading, cursive handwriting, spelling, verbal expression, review and listening. Research validates that Alphabetic Phonics works for many students who struggle to read if administered consistently and properly.
The Learning360 team has years of experience in working with students with learning challenges and has invested the time to be fully trained in the Alphabetic Phonics program.
Shannon and Jeff have been long-time residents of the Santa Clarita Valley where they raised their three sons. Together they have been in education for more than 35 years. Their passion for equipping children and their families is evident in the work they do at Learning360.
